Il existe différents types de portiques en bois comme le portique en H («H pole, H frame») et le portique Gulf Port («Gulf Port wood portal»). Celui-ci est constitué de deux poteaux reliés à leur partie supérieure par deux traverses croisées, placées en accent circonflexe. Ce portique, d'origine américaine, est employé pour les lignes à haute tension.
